The duty of a man is to provide, protect, and to pass on. One of the hardest transitions for a man is when receiving is over, and there is only passing on. This does not mean a man ever stops learning, growing, striving. It means he has the watch. His duty to fully invest what he has received to others, especially is own. For the duty to pass on is a reminder we too shall pass on. 44 years 3 months and 6 days hardly seemed enough time, and for sure more is desired. Now at 45, when words are silent and only memory lasts, birthdays are now reminders I have the watch. I have a duty to pass on, for one day hopefully long into the future with years full, I shall pass on.
In younger years, when life seemed invincible and traditions seemed odd, you said one of the most important moments was a prayer said at the end of Wednesday nights, the watch word. Final words before departing for home.
“And now we trust in God, to keep us bright and keen for Christ. Because we love Him, because we want to serve Him, until we seem Him face to face!”
I have the watch, Dad. I have the watch.
Happy Birthday!
